Matthew 11:29 (ESV, excerpt)

and you will find rest for your souls.

There is often one more thing to finish. A message needs answering, a problem remains unresolved, or tomorrow’s responsibilities begin to occupy tonight’s thoughts.

Jesus promises rest for our souls as we come under his care and learn from him. That rest is not limited to the rare moment when every task is complete. It concerns our life with him, including the parts we cannot bring to a neat conclusion.

Trust does not make our responsibilities disappear. It helps us recognise that we are responsible for faithful obedience, while we cannot control every outcome. We can do what is ours to do and entrust what remains beyond us to God.

Physical rest also matters. Taking time to sleep or receive help is not a failure of discipleship. Nor does continued tiredness prove that Jesus has rejected us. We may need patience, practical support, and changes to an unsustainable pattern of life.

Before ending today, write down one unfinished matter. Identify a reasonable next action and when you can take it. Then bring that matter to Jesus in prayer. Let the written reminder hold the task for a while, rather than rehearsing it repeatedly in your mind.

Prayer: Jesus, I entrust this unfinished day to you. Teach me your way, help me honour my limits, and give rest to my soul. Amen.
