He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Psalm 23:3 (ESV)

When we ask God for direction, we often want a complete map. We would like to know how the decision will turn out, what others will think, and whether the road will become easier. Psalm 23 offers something more personal: a Shepherd who restores and leads.

His guidance is described as paths of righteousness. We should not assume that every strong impression or convenient opening is his direction. His care draws us toward what is right, in keeping with his character.

Sometimes the next faithful step is already clear. Tell the truth about a mistake. Keep a promise you have been avoiding. Speak respectfully when irritation would be easier. Ask for wise help before making a decision that affects someone else.

These actions do not purchase the Shepherd’s care. In the psalm, restoration and guidance come from him. We respond as people receiving his care, rather than people trying to earn a place in it.

If the larger question remains uncertain, you can still practise the good you already understand. Read Scripture attentively, pray honestly, and seek counsel from someone trustworthy. You are not required to pretend that a difficult choice has become simple.

Choose one clear act of faithfulness for today. A whole road may remain beyond your sight, but you can entrust yourself to God as you take the step before you.

Prayer: Lord, restore me and lead me toward what is right. Help me follow with humility today.
