Matthew 11:28 (ESV)
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Some days we keep moving because stopping would mean admitting how tired we are. Responsibilities continue, messages arrive, and even prayer can feel like another task to complete.
Jesus addresses people who labour and carry heavy burdens. His invitation does not begin with a demand that they become less weary before approaching him. He calls them to himself and promises rest.
The centre of this invitation is a person. We come to Jesus in trust, bringing our need into his presence. Where we have sinned, we can come honestly in repentance. Where we are grieving or overwhelmed, we do not have to disguise that pain with polished religious language.
Coming to him does not guarantee that every difficult circumstance ends today. His welcome is not measured by an immediate change in our feelings. The rest he gives is deeper than a brief escape from a demanding week, and it does not make ordinary sleep or practical support unnecessary.
Take a few quiet minutes today. Name one burden plainly before Jesus. Then consider a wise next step: asking for help, taking needed rest, or facing a responsibility you have been avoiding. These responses can accompany trust; they do not purchase his welcome.
Prayer: Jesus, I come to you as I am today. Receive my honest prayer and teach me to rest in your care. Amen.
