1 Peter 4:10 (ESV)

As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace:

When we think about gifts in the church, we may picture the people everyone sees. Peter directs our attention toward something more practical: what we have received can serve another person.

A steward cares for something entrusted to them. Our abilities and opportunities are not simply measures of personal importance. They become ways of sharing God’s varied grace as we use them with love.

Service takes many forms. One person explains a difficult idea clearly. Another notices a newcomer, prepares a meal, organises a practical task, or prays faithfully. Different contributions can meet real needs without looking alike. Visibility is a poor measure of their value.

Begin with the person, not the position you hope to hold. What would help them? Ask before assuming. A meal may be welcome; a quiet conversation may matter more. Listening helps us offer care that fits the need instead of only the help we prefer to give.

You do not need to accept every responsibility. Honest limits and shared work make service sustainable. Look for one contribution you can offer reliably, and communicate clearly with others involved.

Today, name something God has entrusted to you and one person it could benefit. Make a modest, concrete offer. Let your gift become useful in someone else’s life.

Prayer: Generous God, thank you for the grace you entrust to your people. Help me use what I have received with attention, humility, and love. Amen.
